After Bordeaux, the caressing delights of Burgundy. And the Jacques Frederic Mugnier Nuits St Georges Premier Cru Clos de la Marechale is sheer delight. The 2007 vintage is not grand in Burgundy for the reds, but here we have a case of a producer making something special. From a monopole vineyard no less. Needs time to open a bit in glass. Very red cherry, gout de terroir – mineral, with a hint of pepper and a sweetened form of iodine, with just a bit of toffee. Went very well with a veal filet accompanied by Paris mushrooms and green peas…
